My daughter found these very moving videos on YouTube and after watching them I thought I would share.  The videos are a British Department store advert, but the content speaks volumes and delivers a very powerful message.  I think the videos are relevant to this educational blog as it is a strong reminder for adults and educators to foster imagination in children.  The innocents of children is so powerful that we need to be reminded of it all year around, not just at Christmas.  Hope you find these videos to be as moving as I did!.  Take a look........

Found these great resource about teaching digital citizenship in the classroom and how to introduce social media in the classroom. I have also added in the Molly Mae script about social media and digital citizenship.

Script for Molly Mae Post
Hello
You may remember back in early October I posted about my twitter adventure.  I briefly talked about using Twitter in the classroom, and then I realized that it might be a good idea to reflect further and explore the role of social media and responsible digital citizenship within the classroom.  Social Media has evolved a great deal in this generation as a means of connecting and communicating.

Social media enables the creation of meaningful connections. it allows for the student and educator to extend the classroom and learning environment beyond the walls of the school;
If used effectively, and in a positive light social media can transform a student's learning experience by extending the model of effective communication, and empower young students to develop, foster and voice their individuality.

However, as the number of communication channels rapidly increase so does the misuse of social networking. The Ontario college of teachers had published guideline for partitioners as lined in this post as Often in a digital environment professional boundaries can blur and unintentional mistakes can happen. Once information has gone digital the author relinquishes all control and is vulnerable to unintended misuse of electronic, casual communication.

Therefore, It is imperative for me as a future educators -- and parents -- to model appropriate digital citizenship

It is the educators role in the classroom to teach and encourage students understanding of the basic ideas and responsibilities of becoming and evolving as a digital citizen. I have attached a link in this post to forward you to an article that goes into further explanation on the themes of digital citizenship.

In addition to promoting and modelling responsible digital citizenship it is also the educators role to follow other standards as outlined by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. (link provided in this post.
As the ISTE website states
Effective teachers model and apply the ISTE Standards for Students as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community.
These standards do not imply that it is solely the educators responsibility for the students role as a being a responsible digital citizen but there are also students standards outlined by the ISTE as linked here in this post as well.

Professional accountability is of equally importance in a digital environment as it is in the classroom on a regular bases.

To conclude I have also linked an article that shows the role of digital technology in the 21st century classroom. Hopefully this will engage and inspire you to do some responsible digital exploring yourself. Thank you for listening
